Eyewear Trend: Cat Eyed Frames

Here at Glasses Direct, we consider ourselves somewhat frame aficionados – modest aren’t we?

We’re constantly on the lookout for ways to tweak and update your eyewear wardrobes, so you can imagine our delight when we spied the return of the cat-eyed frames which we’ve spotted making an appearance on the noses of the residence of Tinseltown and within collections of fashion’s major players, so you could say that we had more than a hunch about this trend becoming a key accessory.

This year, everyone from Alexander Wang to Prada showed their own interpretations of the feline frames at the shows, but whilst this trend has taken the modern day fashionistas by storm, it’s long been channeled by some of history’s most inspirational style icons. Marilyn Monroe accessorised her peroxide waves with a pair of cream and black frames in ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’; Grace Kelly opted for accessorising her evening dress and pearls with a pair of preppy cat-eyed glasses, adding a real, edgy elegance to her ensemble. And least we forget the original cat-eyed bombshell, Brigitte Bardot who often wore glasses and owned a cute pink pair that she often accessorized her sensually chic wardrobe with.

Unlike some trickier trends of seasons’ past, the current cat-eye craze is really wearable for a wide range of faces. That’s because there are really two distinct styles that fall under the cat-eye umbrella: the more traditional ’50s swoop, and a wider, softer ’80s inspired iteration.
