Taking care of your glasses

Despite being made from sturdy and high-quality materials, our frames still need to be handled with care. Whether you’ve received a shiny new pair after placing an order online with us, or you have an old trusted pair that you’ve been through a lot with, it’s important to keep them in their best condition. Fortunately, glasses aftercare is nice and easy. Here are just a few ways in which you can keep your eyewear pristine and in full working order:

Always handle your glasses with both hands

Whenever you need to remove your glasses, make sure you carefully do so using both hands. Taking them off with one hand can eventually lead to them loosening or sitting crooked on your face by putting unnecessary stress on the screws at either side.

Always store them in a case

Protecting your eyewear from every-day knocks and scratches, glasses cases are super-important in keeping your specs in top condition. This is why they should be kept in their case when you are not wearing them as placing them exposed in your bag or pocket could cause them to become scratched or misshapen.

If you are just setting them aside for a bit, make sure to place them face up to protect the lenses from getting scuffed from the surface.

Don't let others wear them

Tempting (and sometimes fun) as it is, try and refrain from letting other people put on your glasses. Placing them on a different head shape could disturb the adjustment and, ultimately, stretch the arms to the point that they won’t fit your face anymore.

If someone really wants to try your glasses on, you could always refer them to our free seven-day Home Trial service where they can try up to four frames of their own.

Take care when cleaning them

We include a small cloth with all orders for cleaning your lenses. Make sure to use this and not your clothes as clothing contains tiny fibres that can permanently scratch the lenses - the same applies to using tissue or paper towel. When using the cleaning cloth, first moisten the lenses by breathing on them, this helps remove any small particles, before gently rubbing the lens surface in a circular motion. You could also use a lens cleaning spray specially designed to remove oils and residue.

You can also clean your glasses in warm soapy water. Rinse them underneath some lukewarm tap water to help remove any dust that could potentially scratch the surface, then use neutral hand or dish soap before carefully rubbing the lenses and cleaning the nose pads and temple tips too. Then all you have to do is gently dry them with a clean, lint-free towel.

Taking care of rimless glasses

The points covered above are especially applicable when it comes to rimless frames too. All our rimless frames are made with robust optical plastic lenses, however, while these are less likely to break, it’s important to remember they are still breakable if they are not properly cared for. When cleaning rimless frames, make sure to be extra careful by holding them by the edge of the lens rather than the bridge.

If adjustments need to be made, check out this page on how to do it yourself at home. Otherwise, you can contact our opticians if you have any further questions. You can find our contact details here.
