About ORBIS
Imagine for a moment that you are blind. Now imagine that you are living in poverty and cannot work to feed your children because of your blindness. Your blindness is not irreversible, the skills and equipment exist to treat your condition but you have no access to those skills because of where you live and who you are. 75% of world blindness is completely avoidable. 37 million people worldwide are blind, and 28 million simply do not need to be. 90% of them live in developing countries.
ORBIS's vision is of a world where no one is needlessly blind and where everyone has access to quality eye care even in the poorest developing nations. They achieve this by providing hands-on training; public health education and improved access to eye care for those who need it the most. Working in partnership with local hospitals in developing countries, ORBIS helps strengthen their capacity, providing them with the skills, knowledge and equipment to provide these services for their community.
Your support of this project could help to protect 84,000 adults and children from the painful and blinding infection Trachoma and prevent them from suffering a lifetime of unnecessary blindness.
