Adjusting your glasses
Sometimes, your eyewear may need a little bit of adjustment. It can be a frustrating thing – your new pair of glasses look great except one of the arms doesn’t sit quite right. Or it could be that you’ve been wearing your glasses day-in-day-out and, over time, they have begun to slide down your nose, or are even sitting crooked on your face.
But don’t worry, getting this fixed isn’t as complicated as it sounds! It can either be done by a professional or by yourself at home. Here’s how to do the latter, as explained by one of our qualified opticians:
Adjusting your nose pads
To change the way your nose pads fit, simply follow these instructions:
- Firmly grip the glasses.
- Hold the nose pad between your thumb and forefinger.
- Move one of them slightly in or out.
- Do the same with the other pad.
- Try them on to see if it worked.
- Repeat the process until you’re happy with the fit. Only make small adjustments each time.

Adjusting the arms of plastic or metal frames
To change the way the arms of your glasses fit, simply follow these instructions:
- Put them on and mark on your glasses where you’d like the bend to start.
- Take them off and heat the side where you wish to make the bend for about 20-30 seconds. You can do this using a hairdryer or a mug of hot water, but be careful not to burn yourself.
- Gently, but firmly bend the glasses straight.
- Reheat the arms again for another 20 seconds or so.
- Make a smooth curve by bending the arm around your thumb around the area you made a mark.
- Try them on again and see if they feel better, if not, try again until you’re happy.
