Celebrate International Women’s Day 2024

7 Mar 2024

On the 8th March, we celebrate all the women who inspire us to be strong, determined and successful. It is International Women’s Day. A globally recognised campaign that celebrates social economic, cultural and political accomplishments of women. The theme for IWD 2024 is Inspire Inclusion. The aim is to encourage others to understand and appreciate women’s inclusion. Women should feel they belong, are relevant and empowered. Organisations, groups and individuals across the globe are all responsible and must all unite together to help make a difference in the community, at work and at home. We should accept women for their diversity, age, ability, religion, body image and how they identify.

To celebrate, we have handpicked a selection of frames designed for women who want to highlight their beauty and strength. Find your bold new look with fashionable eyewear to suit every occasion. Show off your confidence in style and be ready for whatever the day throws at you.

kate spade new york – functional and fashionable eyewear

‘Since our launch in 1993 with six essential handbags, we’ve always stood for optimistic femininity.’

After accomplishing a degree in journalism Kate Spade, née Brosnahan started her career at the prestigious magazine, Mademoiselle in New York. Following success as a fashion editor for several years, she endeavoured to launch her own fashionable range of handbags in 1993. She spotted a gap in the market for, as she explained to The New York Times, “a functional bag that was sophisticated and had some style.” Her designs were instantly very popular for their contemporary look, vibrancy and highly-practical design. Shortly after this, Kate Spade opened her own boutique in Manhattan and her husband became her business partner. They would later expand the business to offer a whole range of fashion and accessories. It continues to be successful today.

The brand has since created a chic designer eyewear range recognised for its variety of wonderfully whimsical patterns and designs. Iconic branding proudly adorns every frame which all use bold pattern play to catch the eye. Full of feminine style, kate spade new york glasses come in a range of popular shapes, designed to be both functional and fashionable. Discover these eye-catching designs and find a style to suit you.

Pink Ribbon frames – promoting courage and resilience

Our stunning Pink Ribbon frames raise awareness of breast cancer. £2 is donated to the Pink Ribbon Foundation for every sale. They are a grant-making trust that offers crucial funding to registered breast cancer charities in the UK.

Did you know that breast cancer is the second most common cause of death from cancer in women in the UK? In fact, 1 in 8 women in the UK will develop the disease throughout their life. That is why we support and donate to the Pink Ribbon Foundation. By purchasing these frames, you can feel empowered to help raise awareness and unite to beat breast cancer. The frames within this collection are all named after famous flowers, symbolising faith, courage and fresh beginnings.

Colourful frames that represent International Women’s Day

Purple, green and white are the colours that are traditionally linked to International Women’s Day. Purple symbolizes femininity, justice, dignity and loyalty to the cause. Green represents hope and white stands for purity. We have carefully handpicked a selection of frames in each of these colours so you can show your support this March. We have also selected a colourful frame from our vibrant Pride Collection as an acknowledgment of queer and trans women who face many challenges with regard to discrimination and harassment. For every frame sold, £2 is donated to Galop, an anti-abuse charity that supports members of the LGBTQ+ community who have experienced abuse or violence.

Can anyone celebrate International Women’s Day?

Absolutely! International Women’s Day is all about recognising women’s achievements and the steps they have made towards gender equality. It also reminds us that there is still so much to fight for. It’s a call for everyone to stand together, no matter their gender or gender identity, ethnicity, race, religion or disability. Women’s diversities should be celebrated.

Support for gender equality from men is also very much welcome, especially if they are willing to use their privilege to support gender equality, helping to amplify women’s voices. Feminism isn’t just about creating a better existence for women, it’s about destroying all the harmful gender stereotypes and the roles they are forced to play in society. Men should consider the idea of achieving gender equality as important as women do.

Clara Baueb Freire, PR & Social Media Manager

It sounds cliché, but to me, we should celebrate it every day! Women are strong and resilient. We go through unimaginable experiences and we are able to manage all of that, even through the hardest times. I am proud to be around amazing women that have achieved so much. The fact that a lot has changed through the years is impressive, but there is so much more that can be done when it comes to gender equality and opportunities.

This day exists to remind everyone that women are powerful and that we can do anything we put our minds to.

The world is full of wonderful, talented and brilliant women who deserve recognition and to be celebrated. We have come a long way but a gender gap still exists and International Women’s Day is a reminder for all these amazing women to keep doing what they’re doing and push through the barriers. I’m so proud to be a part of a community of strong women and an advocate for positive feminism. This day is a reminder for everyone that together we can do anything.

In the modern world, all genders should be equal. We should all be able to get the social status, career, marital status and opportunities that we deserve to have. However, it is not the same in all countries or societies. Some women still have a comparatively low status. International Women’s Day reminds us of all the women in our society who engaged, contributed and sacrificed their precious time and effort for their loved ones, family, business and even the world. No matter where we are and who we are, all women deserve the appreciation, and, of course, a celebration!
