Discover our new environmentally friendly packaging

20 Jan 2023

At Glasses Direct, we are extremely passionate about aiming for a more sustainable future. You may have noticed and been curious about some of the changes we have made recently. We are very excited and proud to introduce our new environmentally friendly packaging. It is made in the UK from 100% recyclable materials and is printed using water and vegetable-based ink. Glasses that were wrapped in plastic are now delivered in recyclable materials. In addition, our plastic glasses cases have also been replaced and exchanged for softer cases that are produced in the UK and made from recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate).

The introduction of the Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT), which came into effect in April 2022, has encouraged many companies to make more eco-conscious choices. This is a matter that has been very close to our hearts at Glasses Direct for a very long time and we continue to make small steps toward a brighter future. We know this is a long-term journey and our new environmentally friendly packaging is just one of the various changes we’re making to have a more positive impact on the environment.

Discover our sustainable eyewear

Our environmentally friendly packaging is just one of the small changes we’re implementing to help make a difference. We also have a stunning range of eco-friendly frames for you to choose from, which includes some of your favourite designer brands.

We strive to supply a variety of earth-friendly frames, which includes our sustainable Arden range. The good news is that for every frame sold within this collection, a tree will be planted. Crafted by hand, these ethical frames use natural and recyclable materials. They also have a positive impact on the environment. This is because planting trees will help release oxygen back into the atmosphere, restore ecosystems and give biodiversity a chance to thrive. In addition to Arden, we have our sustainable Waterhaul collection. Made from 100% recycled fishing nets, these frames come in a variety of trendy shapes and styles. Additionally, some of our other eco-friendly choices include our Polaroid and also our Levi’s eyewear which is made of recyclable Hexatate.

Why should I purchase eco-friendly prescription glasses?

The demand for environmentally friendly eyewear is extremely high at the moment. There are many benefits to purchasing sustainable eyewear. Most significantly, buying these types of products will often have less of a carbon footprint. This is thanks to the manufacturing process which tends to result in less pollution. Many manufacturers are also using materials like wood, bio-acetate and cork. These resources are extremely durable and easily recyclable.

As we grow and begin to develop into a more responsible brand, we want you to join us on our journey. We’re always seeking new ways to innovate, from our eco-friendly packaging to our wide range of ethical frames. Discover stylish, eco-friendly eyewear inspired by the very latest fashion trends.
